Steve Skabrat is an expert in developing and implementing strategies relating to all aspects of US and international patent portfolio development and management, analyzing patents for offensive and defensive viewpoints in support of licensing, acquisitions, divestitures, and assertions, and preparation and prosecution of software and computer-related patents. Steve has 25 years of experience as a registered patent attorney in the computer, software and high-tech industries. Steve managed the Software patent portfolio of Intel Corporation for many years, serving as Deputy Director of Patents and finally as Associate General Counsel of Intel. Steve has written and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications relating to computers, software, and the Internet, and has lead the development of thousands of software and computer-related patents. In his current role as a shareholder in Compass IP Law PC, he focuses on patent analysis, patent strategy, and preparation and prosecution of US and international patent applications on inventions in electrical and software technologies.
Mr. Skabrat holds a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of Minnesota, and Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and licensed to practice law in the states of California, Minnesota, and Arizona.
