Ed’s career has been in technical fields, with emphasis on intellectual property. His current activities revolve around relationship management in the areas of technology licensing, IP transfer and licensing administration, with strong emphasis on international business relationships. He has expertise and experience in Asia and Europe, with existing contact networks to draw on. Ed provides consultation services on technology and IP valuation and monetization, as well as contract negotiation and administration.
Ed worked as a Design Engineer at National Semiconductor where he designed novel integrated circuit solutions for a variety of applications, from memory control and access to automotive engine control. At Dolby for more than 27 years, Ed last was the Sr. VP & GM, Consumer Division of Dolby Laboratories, where he led the Consumer Electronics Division in the world-wide licensing of Dolby’s consumer electronics technologies. He was Dolby’s primary representative to the external market, primary negotiator of non-standard licensing arrangements and contracts, and the guiding force behind technology acquisitions and transfers. Ed later served as President of Via Licensing Corporation, leading their technology licensing experts in the design and implementation of technology patent pools, providing infra-structure for “one-stop-shop” access to intellectual property needed for implementation of international technology standards. More recently, as the founder and President of Triangle Licensing, LLC, Ed provides consultation services in the area of IP and international technology licensing, designing and implementing licensing programs for owners of relevant Intellectual Property. He also serves as an expert advisor in licensing and IP utilization disputes and assists in mediation proceedings.
Ed has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (1971). Ed also completed the Advanced Licensing Institute at Franklin Pierce Law Center (1997) and received a Mini MBA from Stanford University (1993).
