The foundational patent portfolio of late William E. (“Bill”) Heronemus provides worldwide applicability, broad scope of coverage and solid protection against invalidity findings. All patents benefit from a March 2002 priority data and will remain in force for the next 10 years. The US Department of Energy official website lists Mr. Heronemus as a “Wind Power Pioneer”, whose numerous contributions “were ahead of their time”.2 In 1999, Prof. Heronemus was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Wind Energy Association: “In recognition of the inspiration that he provided to an entire generation of wind energy engineers and of a vision for the wind industry that is only now starting to be realized”.
