Dr. Daniel Whittle is a patent consultant and patent litigation expert witness with broad IP asset technical and commercial analysis experience. His perspective is rooted in over two decades of product and technology development and manufacturing experience. He has been active in due diligence on both the buy and sell side as a tech company executive during acquisitions, as an AMEX company director going private, as the principal advisor to the CEO of a niche-dominant biotech company in a directed asset sales process and as a founding member of the screening committee of a local angel investor group.
Since 2003, Dr. Whittle has focused on optimizing the commercial value of technological intellectual property. He provides practical support for enterprises on patentability and commercial viability analyses, patent portfolio strategies and strength, infringement assessment, patent licensing opportunities and R&D activities.
Previously, Dan was President of Cymbolic Sciences and Sr. VP of R&D and Manufacturing at Oce Display Graphics Systems where he led the development of several award-winning wide-format systems in the LightJet laser photo printer and Arizona solvent and UV inkjet printer lines. In this position, he was responsible for multiple R&D groups and manufacturing plants in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. Prior to that, Dan spent 12 years with IBM, where he worked on technology and product development and advanced manufacturing process development projects in displays, notebook and tablet computers, touch panels, power supplies, fiber optic and copper communication subsystems, electronic packaging, holography and lasers. He has been issued patents in high-speed electronic connectors, 3-D photolithography, laser scanning and LCD backlights and has patents-pending in magnetic connectors, solid-state lighting systems and consumer electronics accessories.
Dr. Whittle is a registered U.S. Patent Agent and was registered as a Professional Engineer. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. from Lebanon Valley College. He is a Senior Member of both the IEEE and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and is a member of the Optical Society of America and the Technology Alliance Group for NW Washington. He is currently serving on the Litigation Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association and has served on the Seattle Chapter board of the Licensing Executives Society. In addition, Dan has experience as a board member of public and private companies and non-profit organizations.
