Mr. Myricks has a wealth of experience as a patent attorney, technology analyst and expert on patent portfolio management, intellectual property valuation and intellectual property commercialization strategies. He was most recently Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for PatentCafe.com, Inc., an innovative developer of software products for patent portfolio management. In his current role as the principal in the Myricks Law Group, he focuses on the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications on inventions in the electrical and software art fields involving computer software systems, computer networks, multimedia systems, speech and image processing applications, and artificial intelligence technologies. He counsels business owners and independent inventors on patent portfolio management, patent infringement, patent invalidity, intellectual property and technology licensing, and related strategic business matters. In addition, Mr. Myricks has significant experience drafting and negotiating technology and intellectual property license agreements, software license agreements, technology transfer agreements, joint venture agreements, and technology development and distribution agreements.
Formerly, as Chief Patent Counsel for Vulcan Inc., the company formed by Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen, Mr. Myricks developed, managed and established the strategic direction of its global intellectual property portfolio of patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets. He developed the company’s corporate intellectual property policies and procedures, as well as its internal processes for preparing and evaluating invention disclosures from engineering and applied research groups in the company. In support of the company’s investment activities, he also performed due diligence on intellectual property portfolios of target companies for acquisition and investment purposes. Prior to joining Vulcan Inc., Mr. Myricks was an associate with the prestigious intellectual property law firm of Christensen, O’Connor, Johnson & Kindness, LLP.
Mr. Myricks holds a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering from M.I.T, a Master’s Degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington, and degrees in law from the Franklin Pierce Law Center. He is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and a registered patent agent with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Washington, in the District of Columbia and before the United States Supreme Court. He maintains active memberships with the Washington State Bar Association, the King County Bar Association, and the Washington State Patent Law Association. He is also the former Chair of the Seattle Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society.
